With the goal to provide improved wastewater treatment for a hospital in Pignon, Haiti, using local labor and materials, a constructed wetland treatment system was recommended. Given the limited access to a reliable power supply, a low operation and maintenance constructed wetland system, will be located on land adjacent to the hospital. Hospital wastewater will be collected and directed to a septic tank constructed by local labor. Effluent from the tank will flow by gravity to a constructed wetland and then to a seepage field. Construction of the project is expected shortly after land acquisition is complete. This project is being directed by a Midwest-based charity organization.
